About our founder

My name is Penny Scott, I founded Good Fridaze after working in charity and NHS services as a recovery worker specialising in ‘hard to reach’ populations and rough sleepers.

It was while working in these roles, that I realised that the classic definition of ‘hard to reach’ applied to more people than the target populations I was working with. Namely, me and my friends.

Professionals working in a variety of settings; tech, advertising, recruitment, marketing and more. We were all consuming alcohol regularly with colleagues and together. Without much thought of the consequences, or even knowledge around alcohol.

Listening to stories of the chaos we caused, the unplanned Ubers we got home, the embarrassing things we’d said to bosses and the fast food breakfasts shoved down on the morning commute to cure our hangovers (if we even made it to the office) got me thinking about the relationships we have with alcohol and work.

So I ran a pilot survey over Linkedin and social media in 2023 calling for people’s experiences.

Only to find we weren’t alone. Over 80% of respondents stated that their performance at work was reduced between 20% and 80% the day after drinking with colleagues. It also revealed that over 30% of respondents felt their relationship with colleagues would be impacted if they stopped drinking.

And so Good Fridaze was born.

Using my professional experience, as well as a Masters of Public Health, I have designed workshops aimed at professionals who may never enter treatment services, to encourage awareness around the impact that alcohol can have on our careers and lives outside of work.

I work with employers to educate around best ways to support colleagues who might be trying to change their relationship with alcohol and to bring awareness around how these long presiding attitudes can be changed for employee wellbeing.

This is not counselling, not a sobriety campaign and definitely not a telling off. But a Good Fridaze workshop or consultancy session can be a great addition to the wellbeing practice of any socially conscious business.
